As a general guide for youth fastpitch players aged 7 to 12:
Infield: 10.5" to 11", for quick transfers
Outfield: 11" to 11.75", for extra reach
Younger beginners (under 7): 10" to 10.5", easy to close and control

It’s possible at the youngest levels, but not ideal. A youth baseball glove has a shallower pocket made for the smaller baseball, so the softball pops out more easily. A youth fastpitch glove has a deeper pocket and is designed for smaller hands, which makes catching easier and builds confidence.
