What types of baseball gloves are there?
There are five main types of baseball gloves, each designed for a specific position:
Infield gloves: smaller, with a shallow pocket for quick transfers and fast plays
Outfield gloves: longer, with a deep pocket for maximum reach on fly balls
Pitcher gloves: closed web to hide the grip from hitters
Catcher’s mitts: heavily padded and reinforced for high-impact catches
First base mitts: long and flexible, designed for scooping throws in the dirt
Start with your position, then pick the size, web and level that fit your game. Infielders usually choose an 11" to 12" glove, outfielders 12.5" to 13", and catchers a 32" to 34.5" mitt. Comfort and fit in your hand matter just as much as size, so try a few models in store if you can. Youth players typically use smaller gloves, between 9" and 11.5" depending on age. An infield glove is smaller (11.25"-12") with a shallow pocket for fast transfers; an outfield glove is longer (12.5"-12.75") with a deep pocket for tracking fly balls.

Fastpitch gloves are often designed with a narrower hand opening for female players, while slowpitch gloves tend to be the largest, often 12.5" to 14".
