A youth first base mitt is a first base glove sized for young players. It has no individual fingers, a long shape and a deep pocket to help kids catch throws from teammates and scoop balls out of the dirt, with a lighter build and smaller hand opening than adult mitts.

Most youth first base mitts range from 11.5" to 12.5". Younger players usually do best with an 11.5" or 12" mitt that’s easier to close, while older youth players can move to 12.5". Check our youth glove size chart for sizing by age.

If your child plays first base regularly, a first base mitt makes catching throws and scooping short hops much easier than a regular glove. For kids who play several positions, a youth fielding glove may be the better all-around choice.

Most players move up around age 13 or when their hand outgrows youth sizes. When they’re ready, shop our adult first base mitts.

Play catch and practice scooping short hops so the mitt closes easily. For a game-ready mitt faster, try our Mitt Master glove break-in service or our glove break-in products.

Complete your child’s setup with a youth bat, a youth batting helmet, youth batting gloves and a bat bag.
