What size baseball glove do I need?
Glove size depends on your position and age. As a general guide:
Infield gloves: usually 11" to 12" for quick transfers
Outfield gloves: usually 12.5" to 13" for extra reach on fly balls
Pitcher gloves: usually 11.5" to 12"
First base mitts: usually 12" to 13"
Catcher’s mitts: measured by circumference, usually 32" to 34.5"
Youth players typically use smaller gloves, between 9" and 11.5" depending on age. Our in-store staff can help you find the right fit.
What is the difference between a baseball glove and a softball glove?
Softball gloves have a deeper pocket and are usually bigger to handle the larger softball. Fastpitch gloves are often designed with a narrower hand opening for female players, while slowpitch gloves tend to be the largest, often 12.5" to 14".
Closed webs (basket, two-piece) are popular with pitchers because they hide the grip on the ball.
Open webs (I-web, single post) help infielders get the ball out quickly and see it through the glove.
H-webs and trapeze webs are favourites with outfielders for a deep, secure pocket on fly balls.
Gloves are named after your throwing hand. If you throw with your right hand, you need a “right-hand throw” (RHT) glove, worn on your left hand. If you throw with your left hand, choose a “left-hand throw” (LHT) glove.
Our youth baseball gloves are lighter, easier to close and sized for smaller hands. We carry youth fielding gloves, youth first base mitts and youth catcher’s mitts. Choose a size your child can open and close easily, rather than one to “grow into.”
We carry the most trusted glove brands in the game, including Rawlings, Wilson, Mizuno, Easton and Miken. Serious players can also shop our Rawlings Pro Preferred gloves.
Yes. Our custom gloves let you choose the colours, leather, web and details to build a glove that’s truly yours.
The best way to break in a glove is to play catch with it regularly. For a game-ready glove without the wait, Baseball Town offers the Mitt Master glove break-in service, a professional treatment that softens the leather and shapes the pocket. You can also speed up the process at home with a glove break-in product like a mallet or softener. Avoid ovens, microwaves and hot water, which can damage the leather and void your warranty.
Clean off dirt after use, let it dry naturally and apply a glove conditioner a few times per season to keep the leather soft and prevent cracking. Store your glove with a ball in the pocket to keep its shape.
Complete your setup with baseball bats, batting gloves, cleats and an equipment bag.
