Field Equipment

Standard bases are 15" x 15". Since 2023, Major League Baseball uses larger 18" x 18" bases. Most amateur, youth and softball leagues still use 15" bases, so check your association’s rules before buying. Shop all bases.

• Throw-down bases, like the Rawlings Throw Down Base Set, simply lie on the ground, ideal for practice, backyard and temporary fields.

• Anchored bases, like the Rawlings and Worth Deluxe Safebase, attach to an in-ground anchor or receptacle so they stay in place during games.

• Hollywood-style bases, like the Rawlings Pro Hollywood set, sit low with a slanted edge and are the style used in pro baseball for durability and safety.

A double first base, like the Rawlings Safe Release Double Base or Hollywood Impact Double First Base, has two side-by-side sections: one for the first baseman and a coloured one for the runner. It reduces collisions at first base and is common in slowpitch and youth softball. Check whether your league allows it.

The official adult pitcher’s plate is 24" x 6". Youth pitching rubbers, like the Rawlings 18" Youth Pitching Rubber, are smaller for younger divisions. Choose a spiked rubber for temporary mounds or a pin-down rubber for permanent installation. Shop all pitching rubbers.

An in-ground receptacle is installed permanently in the base path, and the base’s post slides into it. When the base is removed, a mushroom plug or cap insert covers the receptacle to protect it and keep players safe.
