A cage jacket, also called a batting jacket, is a lightweight pullover designed for baseball and softball players. It’s worn in the batting cage, during warm-ups and batting practice, and in the dugout between innings to stay warm. In many leagues, base runners, especially pitchers, are allowed to wear a jacket on the bases to keep their arm warm. Rules vary by league and level, so check with your umpire or league. Pitchers usually can’t wear a jacket while pitching, but often put one on as soon as they reach base.
