A USA Baseball bat is a youth bat certified under the USABat standard, identified by the USA Baseball stamp on the taper. These bats are designed to perform closer to wood bats, for a safer game and a better focus on hitting fundamentals.
The USA Baseball stamp is required in Little League and in many youth baseball organizations. Rules vary between Canadian associations and age groups, so always confirm with your league before buying. Travel and tournament teams often use USSSA bats instead.
USA Baseball bats are tested to a stricter standard and perform closer to wood, while USSSA bats generally offer more pop. A USSSA bat is not legal in a league that requires the USA Baseball stamp, and vice versa.
As a general guide:
Drop -12 and -11: younger or smaller players building bat speed
Drop -10: the most popular choice for most Little League players
Drop -8 and -5: stronger players preparing for heavier bats and, later, BBCOR -3 bats
The right drop depends on strength, not only age. Use our USA Baseball bat size guide to find the right fit.
Bat length depends on your child’s height and weight. A bat that’s too heavy slows the swing and builds bad habits, so it’s better to start lighter. Check our youth bat size chart or visit us in store in Laval, Saint-Hubert or Ottawa for a fitting.
Smaller barrels (2 1/4" and 2 1/2") are lighter and easier to control, great for younger players. The 2 5/8" barrel is the most popular choice, offering a bigger hitting surface and the same barrel size as BBCOR bats.
For the youngest players, start with our T-Ball and Junior Big Barrel bats, which are lighter and easier to swing. Players move to a USA Baseball bat when they reach coach-pitch or kid-pitch levels.
Complete your player’s setup with youth batting gloves, a youth batting helmet, a youth glove and a bat bag.
