Training shorts are worn on their own for practice, workouts and warm weather. Sliding shorts are padded compression shorts worn under baseball pants to protect the hips and thighs when sliding, often with a cup pocket. Shop men’s shorts, women’s shorts and youth shorts.
The number is the inseam length, the distance from the crotch to the bottom of the leg. 3" shorts are short and light, popular in women’s training shorts. 5" offers a balance of coverage and freedom of movement. 7" shorts, like the Nike Victory 7" or Under Armour Launch Run 7, give more coverage and a more traditional look.
Baseball-specific training shorts, like the Under Armour Yard Baseball Shorts, Rawlings ColorSync Technical Short or Mizuno Comp Training Shorts, are lightweight, breathable and allow a full range of motion for hitting, throwing and fielding drills. Note that some coaches require pants for sliding drills.
2-in-1 shorts, like the Nike Challenger Dri-FIT 2-in-1, combine a loose outer short with a built-in compression liner. You get support and coverage from the liner, without needing a separate pair of compression shorts.
